Glass art sculptures
Jon Casto is very well established artist in the borosillicate glass community. Every glass artist that is well known has there own design that no one else has yet created. In Jon Casto case he has such unique distinct sculpted aliens that he makes come to life. Each individual alien is unique to each other, they are never duplicates which is one thing I really love Casto because a lot of artist have one unique design that they just replicate a bunch with different colors but no Casto piece is a duplicate. The true art in his pieces is how he makes these crazy looking aliens and correlates in function to them because they just look like sculptures but have many functions. I've been just talking about his full body aliens but my favorite functional pieces he makes which I'm personally in ownership of one of the biggest pieces and that's his pendants he creates. They just consist of the head of his aliens and from the front you cant even tell they are made to be on necklaces. Another thing that I think is very cool about some of his pieces is that sometimes he adds animal twists to his alien pieces. For example he'll add bunny ears or antlers to one of his alien designs. Sometimes he'll even make a piece that's just mismatched animals like I have a friend on Instagram who owns one of his "panda-puss" pieces and this particular one has a head and body of a panda bear but legs of an octopus, extremely unique doesn't even look like its made of glass with the textures he uses. Which moves me into the next thing I had to say which is that he has a lot of pieces that don't even look like they're made of glass because of the techniques he uses. This includes using a sandblaster so that it gives it a frosty sort of appearance with a grainy feel to it and then he'll actually manipulate the glass to give it a lot more texture which is a true skill. Casto is definitely one of my favorite borosillicate glass sculptures and I'm honoured to be able to have an wear one of his amazing pendants. We also keep in touch and I'm sure I'll own more of his work in the future! Here is some examples of his beautiful pieces of art.
